There’s a new kid on the block when it comes to Social Media: Periscope. Brand-new and still fairly unknown, it is only a matter of time until this app will literally pop up everywhere you see smartphones being used.
But what is Periscope? How is it used? And most importantly, how will we – KICKZ – use it in the future?
In simple terms, Periscope is a free-to-use app (iOS & Android) that transforms your smartphone into a live broadcasting studio. In the past you filmed something, uploaded it to a platform like Facebook or YouTube and when you posted the link, finally your friends could watch it. By the time someone sees what you posted, the moment is gone. You could only see the past. Those days are over now. With Periscope you broadcast LIVE what you see as it happens. Your friends get a notification when you are broadcasting and become eye-witnesses to the moment. Periscope literally allows you to experience the world through someone else’s eyes. Tech experts already call Periscope a game changer. “Look what happened an hour ago” becomes “Look what is happening right now”.
KICKZ x Periscope
As one of the first companies to implement Periscope into their social media strategy, KICKZ will use the app to broadcast all kinds of live events to our followers, allowing people who live thousands of miles away to be part of the ever growing KICKZ community.
Among the things we will broadcast in the future are:
- STREETBALL TOURNAMENTS
- SLAM DUNK CONTESTS
- SHOP OPENINGS
- FESTIVALS
- PARTIES
- BEHIND THE SCENES LOOKS
- … and a bunch of other stuff we haven’t even thought about yet (suggestions are always welcome)
Curious? Here are the necessary steps to take if you want to use Periscope:
- Find “Periscope” in the iOS App Store (or Google Play Store) and download it. It’s FREE!
- Here comes the part you are not going to like, but it’s SO WORTH IT. Trust us. Because Periscope is owned by Twitter, you need a Twitter account to register (also FREE!)
- Once you have registered, you can find us by typing “KICKZ” into the search bar.
- When you have found our profile you can now choose to follow us, which means once we start filming/broadcasting something, you will get an immediate push notification to your smartphone that will say something like “KICKZ is now LIVE… Streetball Tournament Park Authority”.
- Press that notification on your smartphone and the Periscope app will open with a LIVE STREAM of our broadcast.
In case you missed our live broadcast, you can still watch everything you missed out on for 24 hrs on the main page of the Periscope app. After that they will be automatically deleted.
During a live broadcast you not only see the video stream but can also listen in to what’s happening. There’s a chat window, which you can use to ask questions or comment on what you are seeing. Fancy, huh?! Like on this blog we encourage interaction and look forward to YOUR participation.
