Jordan Super.Fly 4 JCRD

The Jordan Super.Fly 4 is the quasi-signature shoe of Clippers superstar Blake Griffin. Though it doesn’t carry his name, BG was involved in the design process and it’s definitely made for strong, explosive players like him. Jimmy Butler is another great athlete who is currently wearing the 4th installment of the Super.Fly on-court. So while there’s little doubt about the performance of the shoes, they haven’t really been as much of a sneakerhead favorite as other basketball silhouettes. This could change now with Jordan using a “Jacquard” style weaving technology on the upper resulting in a much lighter version of the shoe which sports a dazzling all-over pattern.

What makes Jacquard so special?

Jacquard so far has been seen on many of the running-inspired lifestyle sneakers by Nike. Silhouettes like the Internationalist, Air Max 1 and Roshe One have all enjoyed the premium knit treatment. But what exactly is Jacquard knitting? Joseph Marie Jacquard was a French inventor and his most important invention was the Jacquard loom. It was the first programmable machine which was able to create endless, complex patterns. This is 1805 but one can argue that the Jacquard loom was already a very early version of a computer.

So, 210 years later we have a Jordan performance basketball shoe with the Jacquard knit. Why go back to this technology? Jacquard feels and performs a lot like the Performance-Woven upper of the Air Jordan XX9 – which is arguably one of the best modern basketball shoes. In the past, critics of the Super.Fly complained about the shoes being a bit to stiff. With the new comfortable yet sturdy Jacquard upper there’s not much left to complain about. Therefore the Super.Fly 4 SE could really make a strong impact.

The UNC Tar Heels (yes, MJ‘s former college team) already showcased a PE (Player Exclusive) version of the Jacquard basketball shoe in team colors. While the 3 launch colorways don’t leave much to wish for we nevertheless hope that there’ll be even more options available in the future – be it Carolina Blue or other Jordan signature colors.

The 3 launch CWs consist of a white/black upper with red hits; a blue/black version; and a beautiful mix of Gym Red/Light Crimson/Infrared 23. All 3 options will be available on October 31st at 9 AM CET at KICKZ.COM as well as in our stores. We are proud to state that we’re the only German retailer who got its hands on these models.
