From the ongoing collaboration between Pharrell Williams and Adidas Originals we, yet again, get to see some very creative ideas brought to life. After Pharrell’s Supercolor collection of 50 monochrome sneakers, he now teamed up with 4 distinct artists to transform the famous shelltoe of the superstar in some unique ways.

The Supershell collection is divided into two separate lines. The Supershell Sculpted Collection transforms the shelltoe into a 3-dimensional piece of art, while the Supershell Artwork Collection boasts some colorful graphic prints. For its 35 anniversary we’ve seen plenty of special editions of the Superstar, but these here are truly unique. The modifications focus on the insole and toe while the rest of shoes provides an either black or white blank canvas. Pharrell hand-picked four of his favorite artists for this collaboration: MR, Cass Bird, Zaha Hadid, and Todd James.
MR is a Japanese artist from Saitama prefecture close to the Tokyo metropolitan area. He incorporates beauty and sexuality into his manga-style artworks. “His mind and his work remind us all that there’s an inner child in all of us”, according to Pharrell. In the past, he worked as a creative director for Pharrell’s 2014 music video”It girl” and is a master of depicting innocence. His black edition of the Supershell Sculpted Collection as well as his white edition from the Supershell Artwork Collection will be available at KICKZ.com on August 7th.

Todd James is a celebrated artist from New York. His drawings and installations have been featured in galleries and museums around the world. Pharrell admires him for following his own rhythm, while he is at a loss for words to describe his art: “Certain things have an effect on you that you can’t really put into words.” Todd James’ black edition of the Supershell Sculpted Collection will be available at KICKZ.com on August 7th.
