What started out as a perceived Knicks nightmare might turn out not to be so bad after all. That’s because after being booed mercilessly by Knicks fans at the 2015 NBA Draft, which took place in New York at MSG, Kristaps Porzingis is proving his doubters wrong.
Although it is still early in the season, the first impressions of KP are spectacular. As you can see in the video below some people expected him to be the next Darko Milicic or Andrea Bargnagni. All tall, European players that came into the league with lots of hype, ready to take on the mantle of being the next great white superstar forward, stepping into the shoes of Larry Bird and Dirk Nowitzki. They failed miserably. But the stigma of European imports being “soft”, “indifferent” and “not playing hard” does not apply to the 7 ft 3 Latvian. At all. Porzingis is tough, goes after the ball and doesn’t shy away from big shots.
How good can this kid be? Our best guess is that when all is said and done the player picked 4th at the draft might not only turn out to be the best player in the draft. He could very well be the next quantum leap player at his position, forcing NBA general managers and coaches to rethink how they defend, draft and built teams in the future.
Whatever the case may be, it is safe to say that Knicks fans are not booing anymore. Never judge a book by its cover. We are rooting for you, Kristaps! (Me particularly because you are on my fantasy team). Don’t back down. Keep proving them wrong.
Keep ballin’.
