This Saturday, Jordan Brand continues its new Alternate series with the release of the Air Jordan V Retro Low “Alternate 90”. The sneakers come with a predominantly black upper with Gym Red and metallic hits that really make them stand out. Check below for detailed release info as well as some on-feet shots.
The Alternate series is a bit like the Nike “What if” series albeit not as extreme. Maybe you remember the Lebron XII “What if” that had a Dallas Cowboys-inspired colorway because back in his high school days LBJ might as well have opted for pursuing his football career instead of shooting hoops. Like I said the Alternate series is not as extreme which surely let’s purists rejoice. The simple premise is: what if, back in the days, Michael Jordan had his own team color inspired Player Exclusives – in other words, colorways that could, or even should have been OG colorways.
The Air Jordan V was originally released in 1990 when MJ’s Bulls faced the dominance of the Detroit Pistons. The “Bad Boys”, including Dennis Rodman and Isiah Thomas, beat Chicago for the third time in a row in the playoffs, despite e.g. a 47-point game by Jordan in Game 3. So even if the Bulls were not yet ready for the championship there were sparks of hope and Michael was getting better and better. He definitely was ready to take the next step.
